Helping You Find Your Way

Katy Cooley, MA, LPC
After graduating from Roosevelt University in 2002, I began my career as a professional counselor, starting in a community mental health center in Chicago where I provided therapy to children and their families while collaborating with community service providers to help create evidenced-based wraparound care tailored to each individual client. I continued with this focus when I moved to Asheville in 2008. Since that time, I have expanded my client base to focus mainly on adults,18 years of age and older. My main areas of training and expertise have been primarily on healing from trauma. I am also well versed in addressing depression, anxiety, self-esteem and relationship difficulties, along with many others issues that my clients may be facing. I have extensive training in trauma recovery, utilizing several different treatments including EMDR, DBT, Mindfulness Techniques for Coping and Prevention, IFS, Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Focused CBT.
People generally seek counseling because where they are is not where they want to be. Moving from one place to the other can only happen if changes are made. I focus on creating a trusting and safe environment with an emphasis on collaboration to help ensure that the process to change, though possibly difficult and even painful, is ultimately rewarding and lasting. My focus is on treating you as an individual with unique needs and goals and I will work with you to develop strategies for change based on the information you bring to each session.
